Rampant Productivity

Every once in a while, I get on a productive streak. This time, the productive streak was caused by my quilting friend Ciara, who stayed over last week. She brought over these awesome teal and green fabrics with which we made a pillowcase that she is giving as a gift. She left me the fabric we didn't use in the pillowcase and I was so inspired that I made a pillowcase of my own.

The two pictures above are the front and back of the pillowcase. I made the hexagonal side first (based on this tutorial from Jaybird quilts), then used the rest of my sewn together strips as the border for the square side. It matches nothing in my living room except for the potholder pictured below.

Then, being in a hexagonal sort of a mood, I made this potholder using a bag of strips that Ciara had left me from another quilt. The back looks the same as the front except that the center didn't quite match up as well.

And it's not just me that's being productive. My eggplants and tomatoes are getting in on the action, too! I'm so proud of them.

Potholder Pass 3

I finished my potholders for the potholder pass several days ago, but hadn't posted pictures yet. Here they are. The only request that I got from my partner was "Pink!", so this is what I came up with. The pink fabric has glitter in it, but you can't see it unless you're fairly close up.

I got a couple fat quarters (pink!) and am planning on mailing this out tonight.

On a non-potholder note, I won a giveaway! The Fat Quarter Shop blog, The Jolly Jabber, had a giveaway for two Pretty Little Books. I won a copy of Pretty Little Pillows and it arrived in my mailbox today. I'm so excited! I haven't looked through it yet, but the pillows just on the front are pretty neat. I'll post a review once I get through it.

Potholder Pass 3

I got my potholders from the Potholder Pass yesterday! Thank you, Tracy from CA!
The beige fabric has butterflies on it, which are very cute.. and there is four pieces of bonus fabric in lovely springy colors. I was very excited to get my package and am off to post about it on the potholder pass Flickr group.

Spring Potholders

The Portland Modern Quilt Guild is holding a potholder swap at its next meeting. I decided to use up some of the leftover fabric from the Spring Quilt that I gave my grandmother.

The large square piece was the first one I finished (and was originally going to be the only one), but at 10" square, it's really too large to be a potholder. It has two layers of Insul-brite insulating batting inside it, which makes it pretty stiff.

The two smaller heart-shaped potholders actually work as potholders. They only have one layer of Insul-brite and one layer of regular batting, which makes them more flexible.

I debated whether I should wait to post this until after the swap, but decided that it wouldn't matter either way. The potholders are going to be chosen while inside a paper bag so how could it matter if someone saw mine early?
